Position Summary: 

Support national monarch and pollinator conservation as a part-time grant writer for the Monarch Joint Venture, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Learn more about the mission, vision and values of the MJV on our website, here. This position will report to the Development Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

Grant Writing (80%)

  • Research, draft, edit, and submit approximately 1-4 letters of intent (LOI) , grants, and proposals per month or as directed.
  • Work with MJV’s program staff to develop technical content necessary for grant proposals.
  • Meet all proposal deadlines by determining priorities and target dates for information gathering, drafting, editing, revising, and submitting complete and compelling proposals in a timely manner.

Grant Editing (10%) 

  • Review and edit grant proposals drafted by other members of MJV’s staff team.

Pipeline Development (10%) 

  • Identify other grant funding opportunities for MJV, including the development of an annual grant RFP (request for proposal) calendar. 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience - A minimum of 3 years of relevant grant writing experience
  • Written Communication Skills - Demonstrated skills in writing and editing content for a variety of audiences.
  • Time Management - Demonstrated ability to set and communicate a predictable schedule, manageable priorities, and forward progress for responsibilities
  • Adaptability - Self-motivated ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal stakeholders
  • Conservation Knowledge - general familiarity with monarch and pollinator conservation or a related environmental fie

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer tasks.
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficient use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment.
  • Focus and Concentration: Ability to concentrate on detailed tasks and maintain focus.

Sensory Abilities: Ability to use sensory abilities to perceive and analyze information from computer screens, written documents, and/or verbal communication.

What to Expect

Successful applications will first be invited to a virtual interview over Zoom. References may be contacted and writing samples may be requested after the interview. While unlikely, a potential second interview may be requested as needed in final decision making. All candidates will be notified via email if their application is no longer being considered.
