Reports to: Executive Director

Job Overview: 

The Americorps Program Leader (APL) will lead on developing an Americorps Program for Howard EcoWorks in coordination with the Maryland Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism.  The Americorps program, when operational, will support the community in disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response to climate change stressors such as flooding and heat stress. By September 2025, the APL will ensure that Howard EcoWorks is prepared to receive and successfully implement an Americorps Operating Grant. With leadership and support from the Executive Director, the APL will ensure that EcoWorks has adequate and proper staffing, necessary partnerships, and member recruitment and support plans in place to launch a new Americorps operating grant. The APL will lead the preparation of program and fiscal documents as required under the Americorps Planning Grant Agreement. The expected time allocation is as follows:

  • 80% - Leading Americorps programming 

  • 20% - Supporting leadership for the Department of Labor, EARN grant for Green Infrastructure

The APL will lead quarterly reporting and fiscal tracking with support from EcoWorks staff, develop an incumbent-level training program with contractual support, and facilitate planning the integration of Americorps with EcoWork's other programs. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Actively leads in developing an Americorps program plan with Howard EcoWorks in coordination with the Maryland Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism.
  • Prepares programmatic and financial reports for the Americorps Planning Grant and Dept of Labor EARN grant.
  • Attends training sessions and conferences as required under the Americorps Planning Grant Agreement.
  • Lead focus groups with the community to understand its needs and capacities to respond to environmental stressors and how Americorps programming can provide support.
  • Coordinates with EcoWorks staff for successful integration of the Americorps program with EcoWork's other existing programs.
  • Supports project and program budgeting and ensures appropriate expenditures to achieve balanced budgets.
  • Develops and nurtures relationships with partners
  • Tracks grant-related deliverables for the Americorps Planning grant and Dept of Labor EARN grant.
  • Leads development of an incumbent training program for EcoWorks program participants and staff.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience developing and managing programs
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, communications, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, database applications and software
  • Excellent organizational, time management and leadership skills
  • Aptitude in problem-solving and ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Well organized with attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Personal vehicle for work use and reimbursement

Hours and Compensation:

  • Position is full-time, exempt, 40 hours a week 
  • The position is flexible for in-person/hybrid attendance.
  • Salary: $60,000-65,000
  • Health, life, vision benefits;120 hours accrued Paid Time Off; 11 paid holidays;
