Missouri Conservation Corps is a nonprofit environmental organization in Columbia, Missouri. We are currently seeking an AmeriCorps member to be an Environmental Community Leader. The ideal applicant will be someone who is ready to meet and engage with community members while teaching them the importance of native plants, environmental awareness and climate resilience. The position's goal is to provide community members with hands-on experiences that will enhance their knowledge and understanding of native ecosystems. This person will help to recruit, train and assist community volunteers for activities such as:
- Improving habitat in city parks by removing invasive honeysuckle and planting trees and native plants.
- Creating and implementing hands-on environmental education experiences for all ages
- Volunteer training and engagement.
- Educating citizens on how to reduce their energy consumption
- Planning and organizing community outreach and engagement efforts
In addition, the Americorps VISTA member will assist our Project Director with volunteer outreach and development, grant research, and networking with other nonprofit agencies and city departments. This may include the opportunity to work directly with organizations such as Columbia Parks and Recreation, Volunteer Columbia, Columbia Audubon Society, COMO Trail Association, Columbia Public Schools or Missouri Department of Conservation
