  • Help volunteers and students in assigned tasks, this is an important task of this position, lead the volunteers and short-term interns with energy and empathy.
  • Prepare and deliver food and water for animals in different areas and ages.
  • Provide daily care and maintenance for outdoor animals, nursery, and quarantine support. Maintenance of the interior and nearby exterior areas of the facilities.
  • Monitor animal health, animal feeding patterns and behavior daily, reporting any concerns or changes to supervisor.
  • Clean enclosures, animal sleeping areas, kitchen and storage areas.
  • Keep correct inventory of food and supplies to perform the animal husbandry and feeding correctly, keep maintenance need list updated and report logistics area.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians or authorized personnel.
  • Handle animals with care and respect, following proper safety protocols and using appropriate restraint techniques.
  • Keep accurate records of animal health, behavior and activities.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and lighting, for the comfort and well-being of the animals.
  • Responsible for the safety of the animals and the volunteers when they are performing husbandry tasks. Enforce health and safety standards of conduct and procedures.
  • Educate visitors by reservation about the characteristics and needs of the animals in their care.
  • Support in the elaboration and update of husbandry and animal care protocols.
  • Support in the update of preparation of diets protocols.
  • Support the Education Coordinator in environmental education for communities (some Saturday mornings).
  • Support in the rescue operations and the reception of new animals, assist with preparation for transporting animals, both within the facility and outside of transfers (when is needed).
