Work Environment / Dynamics:
This position will be based at the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp in Bryant Pond, Maine. This position would be working with the Camp Leadership team and camp counselors to ensure a fun and safe environment at summer camp.
Your Work Schedule:
The Aquatics Coordinator works a full summer schedule from June 8th, 2025 to August 15th, 2025.
Job Overview:
Bryant Pond currently has over 1,300 feet of water frontage covering from the main lake into a wind protected cove. With this much space and multiple water-related activities, including canoeing, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and an aqua zipline, finding the right Aquatics Coordinator is a large priority to the success of this 4-H camp. This role requires high enthusiasm for working with children of various ages with a strong dedication to safety and fun. Each week, we welcome 90-110 campers who look forward to time in and on the water.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director team with waterfront operations and management
- Lifeguard during swim time for each group every day
- Create lifeguard schedules and provide/assist lifeguards with in-service training
- Supervise campers and ensure safety and risk management policies are followed.
- Host waterfront orientations for camper groups
- Plan lessons, lead activities, mentor campers, and provide opportunities for campers to learn and explore the outdoors through high-quality experiences.
- Perform camp chores that benefit the greater community.
- Attend staff meetings and debriefs as scheduled.
- This position will be responsible for fulfilling the DHHS mandated role of Aquatics Director
- Provide basic first aid as needed
- Live in cabins and supervise campers
- Additional duties may be assigned or reassigned based on camp needs.
Knowledge and Skill Qualifications:
Required:
- You need a High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- You need a minimum of 3 years related experience working with youth and teaching in the outdoors or equivalent
AND/OR
- You need to hold an additional certification that is value-added to keep our campers safe like:
- Waterfront Lifeguard certification or have held this certification in the past and are willing to obtain again (training may be available)
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications or have held this certification in the past and are willing to obtain again (training may be available)
Preferred:
- You are 21 years of age or older
- You hold a higher additional certification that is specific to the outdoors like:
- Wilderness Responder Certification
- You have a genuine motivation to work with children in a vibrant, high-energy outdoor setting where every day is an adventure.
- You demonstrate responsible and safe decision-making skills, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all campers during outdoor programming
- You have the ability to lead groups in various outdoor environments, comfortably carrying a small backpack filled with teaching supplies and a first aid kit to support your activities.
