Position Summary:
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. An Archaeologist position is available with the Center for Environmental Management Military Lands to provide on-site support for the Cultural Resources Management Program at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB). Primary tasks include data and document collection and synthesis, data entry, field verification, GIS attribution, site record updates, and report preparation.
This position requires excellent skills in observation, documentation, and reporting; a positive attitude; strong work ethic; commitment to quality and safety; and experience collating, tracking, reviewing, and commenting on field reports conducted by others.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• Candidates must also have a minimum of 3 years of professional/post-graduate field experience.
• Thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. Resume should demonstrate a combination of post-graduate professional knowledge and field experience regarding application of laws and regulations, field techniques, and survey/investigation processes and procedures.
• Demonstrated experience identifying artifacts and cultural features in the field.
• Proficient with all aspects of archaeological research and reporting, including research design, mitigation plans, fieldwork, and report writing.
• Have a thorough understanding of most standard computer programs, especially MS Windows OS and Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Previous work experience in a highly structured, hierarchical workplace with a well-defined chain-of-command.
• Must be in good physical condition, and capable of walking several consecutive miles while carrying gear of up to 25 pounds in a hot desert environment on uneven terrain.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
