Salary: $4,299.00 - $5,783.00 Monthly
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Wildfire Protection and Suppression- Responsibility for direction and performance of fire suppression activities on department-protected lands and through agreements, on Federal and Tribal lands; acting as Incident Commander, or other overhead position. Responsible for making rapid decisions regarding the protection of life, forest resources, and property. Responsible for control of staffing and equipment to ensure efficient and effective control of the landowner and general contingency funds. Ensures all fires are investigated for cause determination and pursues cost recovery on fires of negligent origin.
- Supervision- Supervision of 1 Wildland Fire Management Supervisor, 2-3 seasonal engine leaders, and up to 15 seasonal firefighters. Develops work schedules, sets standards, evaluates performance, and recommends hiring selections. Ensures staff is trained to meet standards required for their assigned responsibilities
- Fire Training- Responsible for wildland fire training for seasonal fire crews and permanent employees. Acts as lead and assistant instructor for various NWCG and relevant courses. Actively participates in instruction at the Fire Academy, as able.
- Regulation- Working as an Assistant Fire Management Officer, investigate violations of, and bring compliance with state RCW / WAC laws administered by the department those conducting forest operations on or near forest lands. As directed by the supervisor issue written burning permits and check for compliance of issued permits. Address non-compliance issues relating to burning regulations and smoke management issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Certified as an NWCG Single Resource Boss.
- Certified NWCG Incident Commander Type 5 or higher or the ability to obtain during the probationary period.
- Supervisory Experience.
- Experience in agreement and contract negotiations.
- Team effectiveness- understanding and ability to increase team effectiveness by focusing on situational awareness, communication skills, teamwork, task allocation, and decision-making within a framework of standard operating procedures.
