The Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife & Heritage Service in Annapolis, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Contractual position (Natural Resources Technician II). The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife & Heritage Service in Frostburg, Maryland seeks a highly motivated individual to conduct bat acoustic surveys in forests and rock habitats (i.e. outcrops, talus slopes) primarily in western Maryland. The work will involve deploying acoustic recorders to detect rare bat species, collecting detailed habitat descriptions, troubleshooting equipment, managing files, and formatting data for upload into NABat. Most of the work will occur on public land, but some work may involve engaging with private landowners and interacting with the public. While acoustic work will be the bulk of this position, there may be the opportunity for additional bat-related field work (i.e. emergence counts, netting, radio telemetry). Most work will be during the day, but may require long days (>10 hours), early evening and night time surveys, occasional weekend work, and possibly some overnight travel.
