The BSWC - AmeriCorps Member Opportunity
The Big Sky Watershed Corps (BSWC) Program is deeply committed to the protection, preservation, and restoration of Montana's watersheds. By placing passionate individuals with diverse community-based partners—ranging from federal and state agencies to Tribal Nations, conservation districts, and nonprofits—BSWC members tackle the pressing environmental challenges of today.

Education and outreach play a pivotal role in our mission. Through community engagement, public presentations, and collaboration with schools and youth organizations, BSWC members contribute to shaping future environmental stewards. Members not only work on the ground, implementing restoration and monitoring projects, but also educate communities on watershed health, environmental conservation, and sustainability.

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Engage communities through educational outreach and presentations.
  • Coordinate with schools and youth groups to deliver environmental education initiatives.
  • Develop educational materials for public dissemination, including brochures, posters, and presentations.
  • Lead volunteer groups in service projects and ensure safety.
  • Conduct watershed-related fieldwork, monitoring, and restoration projects.
  • Assist host site staff with watershed-related planning and reporting.
  • Support grant writing and management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien.
  • College degree (B.A./B.S.), natural resources, environmental studies, education, and similar fields encouraged to apply.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to pass a motor vehicle records check, and ability to provide personal transportation to worksites, personal residence, and trainings.
  • Committed to completing full term length: 1/6/2025 – 11/14/2025.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong communication skills with a focus on education and outreach.
  • Previous experience in teaching, volunteer management, or community engagement.
  • Familiarity with watershed-related fieldwork or environmental projects.
