Location: Based out of Central Point, Oregon. Work to be conducted on interior Rogue tributaries (Illinois River, Applegate River, Middle and Upper Rogue River and triburaries).
Anticipated Duration: March 1, 2025-June 15, 2025

Job Description: What you will do: Conduct winter steelhead spawning ground surveys as assigned. Conduct landowner contacts to gain access for surveys. Wade in streams or float (by raft, drift boat, or kayak) pre-determined stream reaches to enumerate winter steelhead redds and live/deceased fish. Conduct additional surveys, data collection and reporting as assigned, including creel surveys and the operation of fish traps. Work independently and outdoors in exposed locations. Requires rigorous physical labor, at times under inclement weather conditions. Employee is expected to effectively communicate with anglers, landowners, and the general public on a daily basis.
Position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day including most weekends and some night work. Position may be physically demanding.

Requirements/Requested Skills: Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (e.g., steelhead spawning survey experience; experience in identifying adult fish species (especially salmonids); experience in smolt trap operation; experience collecting and accurately recording field data; computer skills; and customer service) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences. Applicants with related boating experience (e.g., skill in kayak, raft or drift boat operation) may be given preference. interviews may be given to candidates with this background.
