A Botanical Program Manager position (Professional Level III Special) is located at Pōhakuloa Training Area, (PTA), Hawaii. This position oversees the native plant and habitat monitoring and management program at PTA, including regulatory compliance for over 20 species of plants listed as threatened or endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act, as well as additional rare native species and plant communities. PTA is a 133,000-acre Army training facility located on Hawaii Island at 2,500-8000 feet elevation in the saddle region between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa volcanoes. Position is contingent upon funding for continued CSU support for natural resource management on PTA.

The Botanical Program Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Botanical Program at PTA to include species conservation and restoration planning; protocol/project planning, design and implementation; supervision of up to 10 personnel; development of annual and quarterly performance goals for self and personnel; report writing and data analysis; and support to NEPA and US Fish and Wildlife consultations. The Botanical Program Manager develops and implements protocols that meet rigorous scientific standards for monitoring threatened and endangered species (TES), evaluating management effectiveness or testing management alternatives. Comprehensive protocols address TES conservation targets, sampling designs and data collection methods; TES threat management/abatement related to pests and disease, fire, invasive plants and plant predators; and genetic conservation for TES including propagule collection, storage, propagation and outplanting. The Botanical Program Manager reports directly to and is supervised by the CEMML Senior Program Manager and works closely with the Ecological Data Program staff and the CEMML Principal Investigator. The position is 100% on-site support and is part of a management team and works with other managers to ensure coordination among program areas at PTA.
