Buildings and Grounds Assistant
The Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station is now accepting applications for a Buildings and Grounds Assistant. This is a full-time, seasonal, approximately twelve-week position. The Buildings and Grounds Assistant will work with the Preserve’s Buildings and Grounds Supervisor on building maintenance, trail projects, lawn mowing, and other related work.
Duration: This is an approximately twelve-week position.
Salary: $16/hour
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to routine building maintenance including cleaning, light painting, and repair projects
- Help with the yearly set-up, clean-up, and summer maintenance of the beach and kayak area
- Assist with all trail and grounds work including the maintenance of trail systems (e.g. trimming, pruning, and repair of boardwalks and bridges) and lawn mowing
- Participate in the set-up and clean-up of Preserve events and programs as needed
- Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as required
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years old
- Use of a personal vehicle will be required.
- May be required to drive Huyck Preserve pickup truck
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to follow direction
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to navigate rugged terrain, and to carry and operate equipment needed to carry out land management operations
- Willingness to be trained in operating weed and hedge trimmers
- Interest in outdoor, physical labor
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check and a DOT driving record check before an offer of employment is made
Job Details:
This is a full-time, non-exempt, seasonal position, lasting approximately 12 weeks from May through August 2025. Some scheduling flexibility is available (i.e. work can be part-time, extending over a longer period).
On-site housing may be available and included in the position.
