Explore Your Future at Camp Waldo this Summer!

Make your summer and future - come alive in the mountains of West Virginia

Camp Waldo is an overnight summer camp located on the banks of the beautiful Greenbrier River in Summers County, West Virginia, run by innovative environmental non-profit Appalachian Headwaters. WALDO stands for Water-Air-Land-Diversity-Organisms.

If you want to stretch your skills, enjoy working with youth and love outdoor adventure, Camp Waldo is the place for you. As a small and mission-driven regional camp with an environmental mission, we pride ourselves on providing unique opportunities for our staff to grow towards their goals, as well as opportunities for collaborative leadership.

Campers and staff get experience with the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective, colocated at Camp Waldo, and guide campers in conducting habitat restoration and other stewardship activities onsite as part of the daily program.

Camp Waldo serves youth aged eight through fourteen, with a CIT program for graduated campers. Our one month camp season allows our counselors to pursue additional opportunities with the rest of their summer. Camp Waldo offers an outdoor adventure trip (campout and paddle) for all campers and staff.

Camp Waldo welcomes requests from its staff to earn service hours, course and/or internship credits through their employment at Camp Waldo.

Camp Waldo Staff are:

LEADERS, MENTORS and INNOVATORS

Camp Waldo counselors are youth guides on a fun and transformative three-week journey – leading and crafting innovative activities, mentoring youth and making THIS summer the most memorable one for every person at camp.

OUTDOOR LOVERS AND STEWARDS

WALDO stands for Water, Air, Land Diversity and Organisms – pillars of the exploratory ecology program at our camp. It's our mission to build connection with, and inspiration from, our outstanding environment in southern West Virginia. Counselors get to share and deepen their knowledge of the outdoors every day at Camp Waldo, learn from natural resource professionals, and practice active stewardship. All of camp has the opportunity to go on a paddle trip and an overnight camping trip.

CREATIVE COLLABORATORS

Each camp day includes creative arts (theater, music, visual art, creative writing), team-building challenges like low ropes and team sports, and varied skill electives like beekeeping, yoga and archery. Counselors also get to collaborate on daily activities that showcase individual interests and skills.

NETWORK and COMMUNITY BUILDERS

Camp Waldo is a unique “pop up” community that draws staff from across the country. Camp Waldo counselors report building connections with camp team members that lift them towards their goals, and help them envision new directions.
