Position: Camp Waldo Counselor (limited leadership positions also available)
Compensation: $1,500 (Food, Room, and Board Provided)
Orientation: May 31st – June 6th
Camp Session: June 7th – June 28th

Camp Waldo is seeking dynamic, creative, and passionate individuals to join our team as counselors. This is more than just a summer job – it’s an opportunity to lead, mentor, and inspire youth in a fun and exploratory environment focused around our spectacular Central Appalachian natural resources. **Internship credit is available.**

Camp Waldo is a camp founded to serve regional youth, regardless of ability to pay, and focused on transforming relationships through collaboration and adventure in our great outdoors. Camp Waldo is part of larger environmental non-profit Appalachian Headwaters, which runs several field-based programs in southern WV focused on community development and habitat restoration.

Camp Waldo counselors guide campers through a three-week journey filled with adventure, creativity, and personal growth. Counselors play a vital role in leading engaging activities, mentoring youth, and ensuring that every camper has an unforgettable summer experience. 

Outdoor Lovers and Stewards

WALDO stands for Water, Air, Land, Diversity, and Organisms, the foundational pillars of our exploratory ecology program. Our mission is to foster deep connections with the natural world in the breathtaking environment of southern West Virginia. Counselors will have the opportunity to share and expand their love for the outdoors every day, and work with professionals from regional natural resource agencies, including the National Park Service, WV Department of Natural Resources and conservation non-profits.

Creative Collaborators

Each camp day includes a variety of enriching activities such as: 

  • Creative Arts – Theater, music, visual art, and creative writing
  • Team-Building Challenges – Low ropes, team sports, and group initiatives
  • Skill-Based Electives – Beekeeping, yoga, archery, and more

We’re looking for counselors who bring energy and enthusiasm to these diverse activities and help foster a vibrant, inclusive camp culture.

Qualifications:

  • Counselors must be 18 years old or older. College students are preferred.
  • Candidates must be able to pass a background check. All candidates go through a thorough screening process including an interview and criminal background check as required by ACA standards.
  • Candidates must provide two – three references. Our administrative staff check multiple references for every candidate.
