Fairmount Park Conservancy (“the Conservancy”) is Philadelphia’s premier, award winning nonprofit that brings the City of Philadelphia’s park systems to life.
Joining the Conservancy as its new Chief Executive Officer is an opportunity to leverage your skills to lead the Conservancy and tap into this moment of transformation while ensuring the organization continues to grow, innovate, and serve the needs of the community.
The Conservancy is actively seeking a visionary and strategic leader, someone who possesses both an understanding of Philadelphia’s community dynamics and a strong financial and business acumen. The ideal candidate will have the following professional and personal qualities, skills, and demonstrated successes.
Strategic and Visionary Leader: In partnership with the Board and staff, the next leader will develop and evolve a strategic plan to guide the organization and will provide leadership to the Board and staff in setting vision, direction, and goals to enable the organization to achieve its mission. The next Chief Executive Officer will provide a focus on outcomes, bringing a data orientation and evidence-based insights with funders, Board members and other stakeholders. This person will also identify and assess future opportunities to increase the vibrancy of the organization and build on its presence and profile within Philadelphia.
External Relations/Fundraising: The ideal candidate is an inspiring, chief spokesperson for the Conservancy’s mission, with the ability to interact with, convene, and influence a diverse set of stakeholders, including Philadelphia’s Parks & Recreation and City Council, the corporate community, and partner organizations. The leader can develop beneficial partnerships by bringing an established network in the industry and/or region representing the organization at national, regional, and local events. The next leader is comfortable advocating for policy change that will positively impact the mission and will support all aspects of fundraising including corporate, foundation, and individual audiences. This candidate will work with the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to identify and implement entrepreneurial ventures to increase revenue. They will also attract, motivate and support the efforts of volunteer fundraisers from within the City’s civic leadership as well as the Board of Directors.
Organizational Leadership: The ideal candidate has a track record of motivating, developing, and retaining a strong team. They are a seasoned leader with strong business orientation and financial acumen who has the ability to create clear goals and objectives and effectively manage performance. They will set priorities decisively, delegate responsibility, assure accountability, and allocate resources among competing priorities. This person has a strong knowledge of governance and experience working alongside a Board of Directors to achieve aggressive goals.
Knowledge of Philadelphia Region: The successful candidate ideally has some knowledge of the Philadelphia region. Knowledge of key players in the funder, nonprofit, corporate, and governmental structures is strongly desirable. Additionally, a background in urban planning, architectural and landscape design, or environmental initiatives as well as experience implementing complex capital projects in an entrepreneurial and collaborative manner is desirable.
Financial Acumen: The Chief Executive Officer must have accounting knowledge and a basic understanding of financial statements, budgeting, profitability analysis, and the ability to interpret key financial metrics. The candidate should be capable of making strategic decisions based on financial insights. They will need to understand budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to ensure the organization's financial health and profitability. The Chief Executive Officer will be expected to communicate financial information effectively to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
Fairmount Park Conservancy offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience and is expected to be between $250,000 and $300,000. The comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as flexible spending accounts. The package also includes a 401(k)-retirement plan. Fairmount Park Conservancy observes 10 paid holidays, a winter holiday (December 24 through January 1) and one floating holiday each year. The Conservancy offers generous sick days and paid time off.
