Position summary

Merjent, Inc (Merjent) is seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join our team. The successful candidate will support preparation of plans/specifications, watershed planning, flood modeling, permit review, feasibility investigations, report and study preparation, construction administration and other design documentation development for projects and tasks as assigned for wind, solar, gas and electric transmission, and other energy facilities.

This is a full-time, paid, entry-level internship open to students and recent graduates. Part-time opportunities during the academic year are available upon successful completion of a full-time summer internship.

Eligible candidates must be able to work at our Minneapolis, Minnesota office. The anticipated compensation for this position is $25/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers, senior engineers, and project managers with the design and analysis of a variety of projects with the core focus of water resources but also other engineering design practices in the pipeline and power sectors.
  • Prepare design documents and technical reports to assist in scope of work and associated budgets for engineering services.
  • Prepare technical documents for engineer, senior engineer, and project management review and provide revisions based upon feedback.
  • Assist with the development of proposals, quotes, and scopes for clients’ projects and needs.
  • Adhere to project schedules and budgets based on client needs.

Qualifications and experience

  • Pursuing or recently completed bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering.
  • Pursuing an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification with the goal to gain Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Interest in developing skills with CAD software, GIS (AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcMap), and hydrology and hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydroCAD, SLAMM, P8, etc.)
  • Initiative-taker and with excellent organizational/task management skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
