The City of Savannah seeks a Clean Energy Coordinator to support its 100% Savannah initiative. Passed in March of 2020,the 100% Savannah resolution is a commitment to:Meet 100% of community-wide electricity needs with clean and renewable energy by 2035Meet 100% of community-wide energy needs with clean and renewable energy by 2050Use the clean energy transition to redress historic inequities and create opportunities for frontline, fence-line, andlow-income communities. The Clean Energy Coordinator will support the implementation of the 45 strategies in the 100% Savannah Clean EnergyPlan and related projects. This work will involve significant interaction and engagement with internal departments anddivisions, public sector and industry stakeholders, consultant teams, educational institutions, non-governmentalorganizations, and the community-at-large.

  • Support the Clean Energy Program Manager in the implementation of the 100% Savannah plan
  • Monitor federal, philanthropic, and corporate funding opportunities and assist with the development of grant applications
  • Support ongoing and future projects through research, data collection, information gathering, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular public outreach and prepare promotional materials and messaging regarding renewable energy and energy efficiency for broad audiences
  • Track the City’s clean energy progress through greenhouse gas inventories, building energy use benchmarking, Renewable Energy Credits, and other metrics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, economics, science, sustainability, or other technical or quantitative fields from an accredited college or university.
  • Working knowledge of major energy topics—energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric transportation, electrification, utility operations, and practices—and a desire to develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding.
  • Commitment to social and racial equity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including a willingness to seek out and use publicly available data, software, tools, and models to answer questions or make estimates.
  • Comfort with using Microsoft Excel to manipulate data and simplify tasks
  • Ability to communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences
  • An undeniable passion for a cleaner, more sustainable world

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience working on energy issues for a utility, government, renewable energy firm, RTO/ISO, consulting firm, etc.
  • Deeper understanding of one or more energy issues (energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric transportation, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, codes, regulations, and policies and how they affect clean energy transition
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Advanced technical skills – programming/scripting, GIS, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience applying for federal grants
  • Experience with greenhouse gas inventories
  • Experience benchmarking building energy use
  • Basic understanding of economics and finance and how those fields intersect with clean energy
  • Experience working or advocating in areas that are less receptive to climate science and clean energy
  • Experience working with diverse and/or disadvantaged communities

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
