Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) is seeking a Climate Action Coordinator to help shape public understanding of the value of transitioning to clean energy and reducing fossil fuel consumption. This role will help inspire and advance individual, community, program and policy solutions to climate change – including efforts around efficiency, conservation, renewable energy, transportation, and smart land use practices. Vermont’s Climate Action Plan and state policies like the Global Warming Solutions Act focus on significantly reducing climate pollution, helping communities become more resilient in a warming world, and working toward a just transition to clean energy. This position will support related organizing, communications, coalition building and policy action.

The Climate Action Coordinator also helps manage the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network (VECAN) – an informal network of all-volunteer community energy committees, partner organizations, and the ActOnClimateVT Coalition. During election years, this position assists VNRC’s partner organization, Vermont Conservation Voters, to help elect climate leaders to the Vermont Legislature and statewide offices.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Commitment to protecting Vermont’s environment and helping make clean energy solutions available to all Vermonters.
  • Interest or experience in building coalitions, including supporting and strengthening grassroots engagement, as well as in working with diverse stakeholders to identify and accomplish shared goals.
  • Attention to detail and proven coordination and collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivation and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Social media, event planning, graphic design, media relations, public speaking/presentation experience is helpful.

The Climate Action Coordinator is a full-time, hybrid (remote & in-person) position based at our Montpelier office. Starting salary is commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $45,000-$52,000, plus a $20,000 benefits stipend.
