Position Description
The Raptor Center is a non-profit, raptor rehabilitation hospital that treats over 1,000 birds per year. This position is responsible for managing The Raptor Center (TRC)’s veterinary clinic. The clinic manager role ensures that the clinic’s day- to-day operations are functioning as smoothly, professionally, and efficiently as possible, which allows the clinic the opportunity to grow and expand its teaching, research and service missions. In conjunction with the associate veterinarian and the medical director, the clinic manager plays a role in the growth and advancement of the clinic’s mission and goals. 

The clinic manager oversees the day-to-day operations and systems within the TRC clinic, ensuring a high standard of patient care is maintained while meeting all the teaching, research and service goals set by the medical director. Day-to-day operations that the clinic manager will oversee include, but are not limited to, facilities, patient flow, staffing schedules, division of tasks, and efficiency. The role includes managing, supervising and coordinating the activities of 2 veterinary technicians, 1 veterinary technician assistant, and several student workers. The clinic manager is the liaison for TRC’s clinic volunteers, which involves volunteer training, leading volunteer meetings, volunteer engagement, and resolving conflicts. The position involves project management, coordination of tasks such as annual reports and research projects, and support of the clinic’s teaching and outreach initiatives, which may include primary instruction depending on the individual’s skill set. The clinic manager will be expected to help with daily patient care and other clinic operational tasks during times of need. This position will require some flexibility in working hours as needed.

Essential Functions
To advance The Raptor Center’s mission of service by managing the veterinary clinic to efficiently and effectively provide care to over 1000 wild raptors annually in addition to client-owned birds. This role requires exceptional communication and strong management skills in order to successfully supervise multiple staff, students and volunteers as outlined above. To support the clinic’s teaching mission, the clinic manager will create, update, delegate and execute clinic training offerings, which includes in-person training and online courses. The clinic manager will represent TRC via multiple venues, including but not limited to, professional conferences, public-facing communications (email, phone calls, publications, social media content), and in-person events. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree plus at least 4 years of experience in the veterinary and/or wildlife rehabilitation field, or a combination of related education (ie CVT) and work experience to equal at least 8 years 
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory/advanced management experience in a professional setting
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with others, strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfort in speaking in front of audiences
  • Physical abilities: lift to 35 pounds; walk ¼ mile 
  • Basic competency in the Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, Gmail, PowerPoint
