At Georges River Land Trust, we conserve and care for the Georges River watershed. For nearly 40 years, we have worked with community members throughout the 19 towns in our service area to protect over 5,000 acres of land across 21 preserves. We also manage over 70 miles of hiking trails and 56 conservation easements. We offer year-round public access, recreation opportunities, and nature-based education across the lands we steward.

Position Summary:

GRLT utilizes a Co-Executive Director (Co-ED) leadership model with two positions: one focused on finance and operations, and one focused on partnerships and development. Together, they are jointly responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization, ensuring GRLT adheres to governance and conservation best practices. As a team, the Co-EDs determine GRLT’s strategic priorities, operational plans and policies, and guide our outstanding staff to ensure GRLT’s overall success.

In this position, you will focus on stakeholder engagement, outreach, external communication, and strategic partnerships. As the organization’s primary storyteller, fundraiser, and partner builder, you will lead GRLT’s fundraising activities. You will work closely with your co-ED and the Board to develop and execute a compelling vision, and you will take the lead inspiring and motivating community stakeholders and the public at-large to support our goals and priorities.

Internally, you will support and manage GRLT’s Community Engagement Manager, Director of Langlais Art Preserve, and our forthcoming Development Manager. You will report to the Board of Directors and work closely with certain Board committees. In partnership with your co-ED, this collaborative, inclusive leadership approach will enrich our supportive team culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners including donors, volunteers, community organizations, foundations and other grant resources, town and state government leaders, and other conservation organizations
  • Be the primary spokesperson for GRLT to members, the community, and the media
  • Build upon our positive, inclusive organizational culture that encourages collaboration and innovation
  • Plan and execute fundraising efforts including anticipated capital campaigns
  • Develop and oversee multi-year and annual work plans with metrics

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to create a compelling vision and successfully execute it
  • Skilled storyteller and public speaker, passionate environmentalist, exceptional writing skills, collaborative leadership style, and experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in relevant field, or equivalent in work experience
  • 5+ years of organizational leadership and fundraising experience, preferably at a senior level and in nonprofits
  • Strong technical proficiencies with computer software, including but not limited to Meta Business, Microsoft Office, Google Office. Experience with our CRM, Little Green Light, is a plus
  • A connection to Maine would be advantageous

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

This position is subject to activities beyond the typical indoor office professional setting. Physical capabilities include standing, bending, walking, and lifting. Must be able to spend time outdoors in variable weather conditions and terrain. Travel is required to various locations in the region.
