The Baker Lab (https://bakerlab.wixsite.com/baker-lab) at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (www.disl.edu) is seeking a Research Technician to support ongoing research projects along the Alabama coast. This is a full-time, 1-year position with a 6-month probationary period, and the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability. The candidate will play a crucial role in project management, field data collection and analysis, and associated reporting. The role offers training in ecological sampling methods (nekton surveys [seine nets, throw traps, underwater video], wetland vegetation monitoring, bivalve surveys, topographical mapping) and sample processing (benthic infauna, sediment, nekton).

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in marine science, ecology, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in ecological research and fieldwork
  • Proficiency in data entry and basic data analysis
  • Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork in potentially challenging conditions
  • U.S. citizenship or residency

Preferred Qualifications (one or more of):

  • Experience in project management
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and applications
  • Experience with ecological data analysis in R
  • Experience operating small vessels
  • Experience with technical writing
