Position Summary
Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) is seeking to hire a Communications Associate for TLC’s newly established communications department. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Associate will help promote TLC’s mission and programs through a mix of digital and print media. This entry-level position will add capacity to our team and focus on managing TLC’s social media and creating monthly e-newsletters.
The Communications Associate will work closely with the Communications Manager and Director of Communications on all external communications initiatives to support TLC’s land conservation, stewardship, outreach and education work. They will be a member of a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team on projects such as TLC’s Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign, marketing signature TLC events including Wild Ideas and Star Party and informing the public of habitat restoration projects and other TLC work to protect local natural landscapes. Across these projects and initiatives, the Associate will work to ensure that activities align with TLC brand standards and voice.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management
- Create a variety of social media content using a mix of videos, photos, and graphics for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Respond to comments and direct messages from audience members
- Engage with partner organizations and community members’ social content, looking for ways to amplify and collaborate local conservation partnerships in the Triangle
- Assist in compiling analytics to track and report TLC’s social media impact across platforms
E-newsletters
- Coordinate with staff on content to advertise and highlight in TLC’s bimonthly e-newsletters
- Write, design, and edit e-news using MailChimp
- Assist in compiling analytics to track and report TLC e-news impact
General communications support
- Pitch and write impactful stories for many different audiences of TLC’s blog, The Dirt, that highlight the organization’s environmental conservation and stewardship work
- Take photos and videos of TLC nature preserves, events, projects, staff, supporters, etc.
- Assist in writing and designing TLC-produced communications products, including newsletters, signage, infographics, brochures, etc.
- Attend and represent TLC at various public engagement events and programs
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience in a communications role including but not limited to past jobs, volunteer roles, and internships
- Keen eye for visual storytelling
- Strong writer, proofreader, and storyteller
- Proficient use of social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. You are able to research and keep up with trends and new updates, as well as look for new opportunities to enhance TLC’s social presence
- Familiarity with MailChimp, WordPress, and Buffer or similar tools
- Strong familiarity with Canva, experience with Adobe Create Suite is a plus
- Knowledge of conservation and land trusts is a plus
- Highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented
- Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for learning
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Office 365 and/or Google Suite

- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to in-person meetings and TLC worksites
Work Schedule and Benefits
This is a full time (40 hours/week), hybrid, permanent, exempt position. The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday with occasional weekend and evening hours for community events (schedule adjusts accordingly). After onboarding, a typical week involves a mix of work in the community (including on TLC preserves), and at least one day in person in a TLC office.
