The mission of Idaho Rivers United is to protect and restore the rivers and fisheries of Idaho. Our strategic wayfinding process guides us to our magnetic north through the lens of climate change, social justice, and native fish recovery.

JOB SUMMARY

Idaho Rivers United (IRU) is seeking a dynamic individual to lead communication on conservation issues impacting rivers throughout the state of Idaho. IRU is celebrating our 35th year and we are focused on free-flowing rivers, salmon recovery, stewardship and protecting Idaho’s lands and water from existential threats. 

The Communications Manager will be part of a seven member team and will lead outreach to our membership and the broader Idaho community. 

Compensation: $42,000-$55,000 A successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range based on a variety of factors, including, for example, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.  Health/dental/vision benefits, retirement savings, and unlimited vacation are included in the compensation package.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Work and Relations:

  • Maintain IRU’s voice as a leader in conservation 
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and refine key messages
  • Help staff communicate with existing members via our CRM and direct member outreach.
  • Support internal teams with communications activities to ensure IRU donors, partners, and the community receive timely information about IRU and its initiatives. 
  • Manage social media accounts and emails including a monthly newsletter
  • Design event flyers, social media graphics and coordinate the annual impact report

Media Outreach:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses; coordinate interviews with IRU staff and spokespeople and fact check materials prior to publication/distribution
  • Create and manage press release activities that increase the organization’s awareness and reach and generate new supporters, including various kinds of events and related event logistics and coordination and leveraging third-party publications and content about IRU

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a passion for rivers and have knowledge of river conservation and environmental work 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to  manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Experience working with membership lists and CRM is preferred, but not required
