Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT), founded in 1992, is a nonprofit organization serving a six-county service area throughout Colorado’s Front Range. MALT’s mission is to protect land, water, wildlife, and our Colorado way of life through three program areas: conservation, stewardship and outreach and education.

MALT seeks a creative, passionate, and thoughtful Communications Manager to plan and execute the organization’s annual public gala and provide marketing and outreach support across all program areas.

Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: 24 hours/week, T, W, Th

Primary Duties:

Event Planning & Management

  • Serve as the lead planner and organizer of Mountain Area Land Trust’s (MALT) annual gala, A Night Of Magic In The Meadow, supporting the Executive Director and Director of Philanthropy to meet budgetary goals. Duties include:
    • Secure event location and all required permits.
    • Work with Event Planner to contract all vendors and event logistics.
    • Create, design, and order save the date information.
    • Create, design, and order event invitation.
    • Solicit and secure silent and live auction items, in collaboration with MALT’s Development & Marketing Committee.
    • Support the Director of Philanthropy in securing business sponsors.
    • Set up online event portal.
    • Management of the auction and guest communications via event portal.
    • Assign duties and manage volunteers/staff; provide training.
    • Create program, script, recognition slides, awards, event signage, and mission moment video.
    • Maintain active accountability toward event budget expectations. Track and report on budget.
    • Serve as primary point-of-contact during event set-up, tear-down, and day of operations.

Education & Outreach

  • Manage each aspect of MALT’s marketing and advertising, including:
    • Research and recommend education and outreach opportunities that reach key audiences along the mountain Front Range.
    • Create and design promotional materials; implement promotional strategies.
    • Support education and outreach efforts at Sacramento Creek Ranch (environmental education hub in Fairplay, CO).
    • Interact with Board members and Donors; provide support for Board meetings and managing documents, proxies, etc.
    • Provide support on various fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and strategies.
    • Manage and grow stakeholder contact lists.
    • Write content for marketing and communications initiatives.
    • Recommend strategies for enhancing donor communication.
    • Create and distribute eblasts and e-newsletters.
    • Create and design signage for trails and kiosks, branded giveaways, and promotional items.
    • Create content and manage website, savetheland.org.
    • Manage MALT’s online fundraising platform, coloradogives.org/MALT.
    • Maintain, update, and create engaging content to grow MALT’s social media platforms.
    • Add MALT events to community calendars.
    • Build relationships with media and share news and events with media outlets.
    • Collaborate with staff members on scheduling, executing, and attending events.
    • Represent MALT at community meetings and gatherings.
    • Manage Board of Directors communications, documents, and administrative items.
    • Coordinate and manage office volunteers.

Education & Technical Skills:

  • 4-year degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills and experience working with the public.
  • Design and layout expertise.
  • Experience with nonprofit fundraising or event planning a plus.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Preferred experience with Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, Canva, and Salesforce.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Benefits include paid time off, sick time, flexibility with remote work, professional development opportunities, IRA after one year. Salary range: $31,000 – $38,000 (24 hours/week)
