Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA) is seeking AmeriCorps members for conservation related positions for the program year beginning September 4, 2024. AFNHA AmeriCorps members provide a term of National Service, allowing an individual to benefit local communities & landscapes while gaining professional experience & strengthening skills.

Positions are one year with a living stipend provided ($21,000). The Segal Education Award ($7,395) and a West Virginia Tuition Waiver is granted to those that successfully complete the full year. Available position locations span across eastern West Virginia and provide support to local communities through projects that support asset improvement or educational stewardship related to environmental conservation. Conservation members get involved by improving public lands and providing outreach and education to local community members and students. Get your hands dirty! Plant trees, remove invasive species, and provide live educational programming! Members serve in a variety of locations across our counties including state agencies like the Division of Forestry, Federal agencies like the Monongahela National Forest and U.S. Fish & Wildlife, nonprofits like The Nature Conservancy, local governments, and others.

Depending on length of service term and position, a Public Lands Preferred Employment Status may be available through the US Forest Service or US Fish and Wildlife Agencies for eligible Members!

The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area conserves, interprets, and promotes forest heritage to enhance landscapes and communities in the highlands of West Virginia and Maryland. AFNHA works with partners to accomplish this through community development, conservation, celebrating cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for transformational experiences.
