Heritage Conservancy is a nationally accredited land trust that operates primarily in south-eastern Pennsylvania, and is responsible for preserving over 16,000 acres in the region. Heritage Conservancy is seeking hard working, dependable college students to join our Stewardship team. Students should be majoring in the conservation sciences or a related field. Interns will work outside 99% of the time and must be capable of withstanding the high heat, humidity and insects (ticks, Mosquitos and bees) associated with south-east Pennsylvania. The interns will gain experience identifying the native and non-native flora and fauna of the region. The interns will learn how to safely use and maintain equipment needed to manage wildlife habitats and invasive plants. Tools include: hand pruners, loopers, hand saws, line trimmers, brush cutters, pole saws, chainsaws, backpack torches, various herbicide applicators and tractors with associated implements. This year’s interns will assist in the installation of a 15 acre pollinator meadow, a number of tree plantings, invasive plant management and routine preserve maintenance. The interns will also be introduced to a number of professionals working in the field (botanist, herpetologist, game warden, park ranger, bird banders, etc...) either through a day conducting surveys or simply having lunch with them and getting a chance to ask questions about their profession.
