Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS)
NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS). These are experienced professionals who provide technical and professional assistance to the Department of Agriculture for the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

Qualifications
Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in Grazing Management or Wildlife Habitat Establishment. OR BA/BS Degree in N/A
- Valid State Driver's license.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word.
- Other Software: Arc Map Pro and GPS handheld.
- NRCS Software: CD, CART, RUSLE2, AUTOCAD as needed.
Duties
Provide assistance to the Stuart (USDA NRCS) staff by assisting with the current CTA General and Farm Bill workloads.
- Will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on whole-farm conservation planning, assist NRCS field office with technical functions of: Organizing and implementing natural resource conservation programs in Patrick County Virginia. Will also plan, design, and inspect conservation practices with a focus on grazing and wildlife resources. Typical practices include the following: Herbaceous Weed Treatment(315), Pasture and Hay Planting(512), Firebreak(394), Prescribed Burning(338), Conservation Cover(327), Water Well(642), Pumping Plant(533), Livestock Pipeline(516), Watering Facility(614), Heavy Use Area Protection(561), Tree/Shrub Site Preparation(490), Riparian Forest Buffer(391), Riparian Herbaceous Cover(390), Fence(382), Access Control(472), Prescribed Grazing(528), Nutrient Management(590), Critical Area Planting(342), Mulching(484), Trails and Walkways(575), Structure for Water Control(587), Diversion(362), Grassed Waterway(412) Underground Outlet(620), Wildlife Habitat Plantings(420). - Meet with land users to identify resource challenges, opportunities and determine objectives. Inventory and analyze resource data to assessments and formulate and evaluate alternatives to address resource concerns and opportunities. 30%
- Serves as a subject matter expert alongside NRCS District Conservationist regarding Prescribed Grazing Planning and Wildlife Habitat Establishment for NRCS supported projects, as needed. This position is located in the Stuart Virginia USDA Service Center. 20%
- Inspects completed practices to determine if NRCS standards and specifications are met. Will Document findings using NRCS-CPA-06 Conservation Assistance Notes, implementation requirements sheets, photographs, etc. In addition, provides documentation to supervisor for certification and provides technical assistance on proper operation and maintenance to customers. 10%
- Prepare site-specific implementation requirements for the customer?s preferred alternative. Work with local NRCS staff to ensure information is translated into a Conservation Plan as a Record of Decision following appropriate planning policy. 10%

- Required Training: Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
- Travel Requirements: Field visits.
- Health and Safety Considerations: 40-50% of the time will be in the field collecting field data and client information. Encounters with livestock, wildlife, weather, and other outdoor obstacles may present themselves.
- Required Safety Gear: Closed toed shoes, work pants, protection equipment from the outdoor elements.
