Contract Grant Writer
Bear River Land Conservancy - Logan, UT
Logan, Utah
Request for Proposals (RFP)
Contract Grant Writing Services
Submission Deadline: January 31, 2025
Overview
Bear River Land Conservancy (BRLC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural resources, open spaces, and agricultural lands of the Bear River region, especially Cache, Box Elder, and Rich counties in Utah. BRLC currently employs roughly 2 to 3 FTE, combining employees and contractors, and has an annual operating budget of about $350,000.
BRLC seeks proposals from experienced and qualified contract grant writers to support the organization in identifying, writing, and submitting grant applications to non-governmental foundations for both operating and project funding.
Scope of Work
The selected contractor will perform the following tasks once hired:
- Grant Prospecting: Identify potential funding opportunities aligned with BRLC’s mission and programs. Provide detailed recommendations on grant opportunities, including funding amounts, deadlines, and alignment with BRLC’s goals. This is a critical component of this contract as prospecting foundational support, especially for general operating funding, is a gap in BRLC’s staff capacity/expertise.
- Grant Writing: Prepare high-quality, compelling grant proposals tailored to the requirements of each funding organization; collaborate with BRLC staff to gather necessary information and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
- Submission and Reporting: Submit grant applications in compliance with foundation requirements and assist with follow-up reporting as needed.
- AI Integration: Demonstrate experience and ability to utilize large language models (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) to enhance efficiency in grant writing, including disclosure of when and how AI is used.
Proposal Requirements
Proposals should be no more than two pages and must include the following:
- Fee Structure: proposed payment terms, including whether the work will be billed on an hourly basis, per proposal, a combination of both, or some other metric. Please include rates for each category of work if rates differ (e.g., prospecting, drafting, submission).
- Track Record: Evidence of a successful history of securing funding from non-governmental foundations for both operating funds and project-specific funds. Please include specific examples of grants awarded, including amounts and funding organizations where possible.
We do understand that award amounts may be confidential. If this is the case, please be willing to provide references from past clients so we can verify your experience. - A detailed approach to identifying and prospecting potential funders, keeping BRLC’s size and service area in mind.
- Description of experience using AI large language models for grant writing.
- Contact information for at least two references familiar with your grant writing work.
Selection Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated expertise and success in grant writing and fundraising.
- Depth of experience in grant prospecting and alignment with BRLC’s needs.
- Cost-effectiveness and clarity of proposed fee structure.
- Overall quality and completeness of the proposal.
Terms and Conditions
- BRLC will not hire a grant writer on commission. Payments will be made based on the agreed-upon hourly rate, proposal rate, or other rates.
- BRLC reserves the right to reject any or all proposals, or to negotiate modifications to proposals as deemed necessary.
- All materials and intellectual property developed under contract will become the sole property of BRLC.
- Contractors must adhere to BRLC’s ethical standards, including transparency regarding the use of AI tools.
