The Smithsonian Marine Station Benthic Ecology Laboratory (Instagram @smithsonianbenthicecology, X @BenthicBrigade) is seeking an independent research contractor to support an investigation of infaunal invertebrate communities in the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) system. Research will focus on characterizing benthic infauna from the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie Estuary as part of a long-term monitoring project under the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). Authorized by the U.S. Congress in 2000, CERP is the largest hydrologic restoration plan ever enacted in the United States. The contractor will assist with research to evaluate ecosystem health that will inform CERP restoration efforts and adaptive management. This contract is largely lab-based microscopy and data management, with occasional field work. Based on the quality of quotes received and the availability of funds, one or more contracts may be awarded.
