YouthWork Conservation Corps is a nonprofit program that provides job and life skills to young adults serving on crews that tackle environmental conservation projects for local communities throughout Michigan. Youth serve in a team setting all while taking in some of Michigan’s most beautiful public lands.
Here is some information about what your summer would look like if you joined our team!
• Passion for working with youth, particularly vulnerable/disadvantaged youth. Experience Required.
• Background in Education, Social Work or related fields strongly preferred but not required.
• Conservation, construction, landscaping, or similar related experience preferred
• Ability to carry out projects to completion and partner satisfaction with minimal direct supervision
• Ability to demonstrate and model excellent work ethic, punctuality, accountability, and trustworthiness
• Excellent organizational and risk management skills
• Ability to demonstrate creativity, patience, and good humor while working as a team
• Ability to lead a team, give direction/performance feedback, and support members’ unique needs
• Able to lift/move up to 50 lbs, and climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and bend
• Mechanically inclined and familiar with and able to model safe use of hand tools
• Able to frequently walk, sit, talk, and listen
• Clean driving record required
• Familiarity with computers and completing paperwork
-Examples of service projects we work on: historical structure restoration; trail construction and trail maintenance; boardwalk, staircase, and observation deck construction or replacement; invasive species removal and tree planting; habitat restoration and waterway cleanup; and many more basic construction and conservation projects.
-Examples of project sites we’ve served in/on: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Isle Royale, Ottawa National Forest (Camp Nesbit), Manistee National Forest, Hiawatha National Forest, Keweenaw National Historical Park, River Raisin National Battlefield Park, Traverse City public parks (Hickory Hills, Clinch Park, etc)
