OVERVIEW
The Education Intern works closely with the Education Leader and assists with all areas of educational opportunities provided through Matthew 25. The priority will be on our Cultivate Hope programs, which focuses on local food, food access, urban agriculture, and sustainability. The Education Intern is dependable, organized, loves working with kids, comfortable working outside in variable weather, and passionate about local food production and education. This position is from May 19 - August 22, 2025 (exact start/end date is flexible). The Intern will typically work 8am to 2pm on Monday-Friday. Must be available from June - August 2025; Thursday evening hours may be required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to be successful.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

● Assist with youth food camps throughout the summer, and garden lessons at local elementary schools.
● Provide a safe and fun learning environment for kids ages 7-13 during camps and lessons.
● Assist Education Leader in ensuring adequate adult supervision of high school students participating in the Cultivate Hope Youth Development Program.
● Lead workshops and team building activities as necessary for the youth development program.
● Assist the farm manager in all areas of production, including soil preparation, planting, and harvesting.
● Interact with community partners and guide volunteers with farm tasks.
● Recommend process improvements for increased efficiencies.
● Display and promote company values.

● Regular attendance.
● Other duties as assigned.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

● Must be organized, dependable, and open to learning new skills and tasks.
● Must comply with Matthew 25 Child Protection Policy.
● Ability to safely carry out relevant farming tasks.
● Enjoys working with volunteers, students, and interacting with the public.
● Passionate about farming, local foods, food education, and food security.
● Caring about economically challenged people and neighborhoods.
● Desire and drive for your work to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable society.
● Commitment to the organization’s mission.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
No previous education or professional experience is required, but any of the following could be helpful:

● Experience working with youth
● Gardening or Farming experience
● Coursework in agriculture, sustainability, conservation, or environmental studies
● Knowledge of small scale organic farming practices
● Able to engage in healthy conflict
● Considerate of safety issues that may arise on the farm, including child safety
● Good at interacting and communicating with volunteers, students, and the public
● Able to delegate tasks, deliver feedback and hold others (and self) accountable
● A safe driver with a valid driver's license and acceptable record


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This job requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions, but can be expected to most frequently be hot and humid. Daily activities often include walking, standing, participating in games with students, and some physically strenuous farm tasks. This can include weeding, shoveling, raking, and occasionally lifting heavy items up to 50 lbs. While proper training and guidelines will be provided on safety and ergonomics (and any necessary protective equipment), it is expected that each individual will also monitor their own state of being to stay within necessary safety limits.
