About Friends of the Rainforest:
Friends of the Rainforest is a U.S.-based non-profit organization that works with children and adults to raise awareness about biodiversity, conservation, and tropical ecology using the rainforest as a focal point. We do this by offering educational programming locally and internationally, providing grants to organizations devoted to conservation efforts, and arranging ecotours for private and school groups, including our recently launched scholarship ecotour program.
Position Overview:
Working under the Executive Director and Program Director, the Development Coordinator will play a key role in the internal management of all fundraising activities at Friends of the Rainforest. This position focuses on donor relations, event coordination, communications, grant proposals, and website management. This position is responsible for planning and executing fundraising events, managing donor databases, handling marketing materials, and contributing to outreach programs.Creativity, attention to detail, strong communication, and excellent project management skills are essential for success in this role. This position has professional development opportunities, as well as the opportunity for a salaried position with increased hours in 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications:
• Manage all communication channels, including email blasts, social media, donor calls, blog articles, newsletters, and fundraising appeals.
• Work with the Executive and Program Directors to maintain and improve FOTR’s website, ensuring timely updates and engaging content.
Donor Relations:
• Maintain and update the donor database, overseeing all donor correspondence.
• Create individual donor reports and provide an annual comprehensive analysis of donor trends.
• Send thank-you letters, donation receipts, and other donor-related communications.
• Manage donation data entry and reconciliation processes.
Fundraising, Event Coordination and Outreach:
• Plan and manage fundraising events such as the Annual Trivia Night.
• Oversee the creation and production of event materials such as invitations, programs, and communications.
• Organize giveback programs and other fundraisers.
• Attend and participate in tabling events such as farmers markets, STEM nights, and other local festivals (e.g. Earth Day, Green Living, SciFest)
Design & Marketing:
• Create and design marketing collateral for newsletters, appeals, and events.
• Oversee the design and layout of the semi-annual printed newsletter and other promotional materials.
Store/Sales Fulfillment:
• Manage store operations, including fulfilling sales orders and tracking inventory.
Development Strategy:
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop short- and long-term fundraising strategies.
• Provide support for strategic outreach to engage and retain donors.
Grant Writing & Management:
• Assist in identifying, researching, and pursuing grant opportunities.
• Draft, submit, and track grant proposals and reports.
• Compile and analyze data related to grants and other funding streams.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree (or working towards) in non-profit management, marketing, development, communications, or a related field
• Experience in planning and executing fundraising events
• Strong writing, research, and editing skills with high attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with donor management software (Network for Good, Salesforce, etc.)
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Passion for conservation, environmentalism, and social justice
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds
• Must have reliable transportation
