The primary role of the Development Director will be to develop opportunities for and secure organizational funding through environmental grants and earned-income projects, as well as elevating the organizational mission of CFC through building new partnerships and alliances. This position will focus on expanding and diversifying funding sources, collaborating with nonprofits, private companies, and other stakeholder groups involved in the cannabis-environmental space and building relationships with state agencies and departments, private foundations, and environmental and agricultural working groups.

- Excellent time management and previous managerial experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and strong ability to communicate effectively through both verbal and written means
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a focus on professional language and grammar
- Community organizing skills and proven experience engaging stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in a development position
- Passion for environmental topics and basic understanding of CA environmental policy and applied conservation practices
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration, Communications, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in nonprofit development, with preference for environmental nonprofit experience, demonstrated experience in fundraising from a variety of sources including foundations, agencies,, and the public
- Experience developing and executing creative fundraising strategies and campaigns, familiarity with budgeting, financial reporting, tracking project progress, and reporting to funders
- Strong familiarity fundraising within the environmental sector, with knowledge of existing grant databases and sources of potential funding
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills, outgoing and positive attitude, and ability to communicate with a variety of audiences including agency staff, private landowners, funders, natural resource specialists, engineers, etc.,
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to translate project accomplishments into outreach/fundraising materials
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration, Communications, Business Administration, or related field
- At least 7 years of experience working in nonprofit development, preferably in the environmental nonprofit field
- Thorough understanding of marketing strategies and platforms to advance organizational goals
- Strong familiarity with the regulatory, political, and social history of environmental issues in the area, particularly cannabis
- Ability to navigate and communicate within the regulatory landscape both inside and outside the current project area (Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino Counties)
- Demonstrated experience in securing major grants and/or gifts, managing fundraising campaigns, developing corporate partnerships, and obtaining government grants
- Skilled in analyzing fundraising metrics to optimize internal processes
- Established network of donor and community contacts, particularly in the environmental sector
