Title: Director of Community Engagement

Status: Full-Time

Location: Huntersville, North Carolina

Compensation: $50,000 - $55,000 (Dependent on experience)

Summary:
The Community Engagement Director is a key member of the Carolina Raptor Center Leadership Team, overseeing community engagement activities, programs, visitor services, and volunteers. The CED has responsibility for managing all community partners  and peer group relationships and works with the President & CEO to identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships. The CED supervises the Education Manager, Marketing Manager, Volunteer Manager, as well as the Visitor Services Department. The CED is a self-starter, has an affinity for balancing priorities well, stays abreast of best practices and community engagement trends, and advances the organization’s Mission and Core Values. This role also provides leadership for the organization’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient with digital programs, specifically with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Highly skilled relationship and team builder who can work with varied constituencies (corporate partners, peer groups, volunteers, and co-workers) to achieve mutually beneficial goals.
  • Proven track record in achieving community engagement growth.
  • Passion for the Carolina Raptor Center mission.
  • Curiosity in and skill with using technology to inform the decision-making process. Microsoft Office proficient.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Patience and an ability to project a cool, calming influence in high-pressure situations.

Essential Functions

Community Engagement 

  • Lead the development and execution of a robust calendar of public events which take place along the Raptor Trail.
  • Support Property Manager and various committees to maintain the Raptor Trail and create opportunities for guest 
    experiences. 
  • Be knowledgeable of and provide support to the organization’s technology including SimpleTix, SharePoint, Square, and Volgistics. 
  • Stay abreast of best practices in community engagement and implementation activities for the organization. 
  • Identify opportunities to gather data about organizational operations and guest experience that will support CRC’s mission.

Departmental Supervision 

  • Provide direct supervision of and support to the Education Manager, Volunteer Manager, Marketing Manager, and Visitor Services Department. 
  • Work with the Education Team to develop educational programming. 
  • Work with the Visitor Services Team to enhance the visitor experience, including management of the gift shop.
  • Assist with development of the annual budgets for Education, Visitor Services, Marketing, and Volunteers.
  • Manage the Volunteer Manager and assist them with developing meaningful relationships with CRC Volunteers, both individuals and groups.
  • Support the Marketing Manager’s efforts to engage with the public and promote CRC.
  • Manage annual goal setting and impact evaluation for department.

Leadership Role 

  • Serve on the organization’s Leadership team. 
  • Work with other Director Level Staff (Leadership) on interdepartmental projects and staffing matters. 
  • Assist with departmental and organizational budget development and management. 
  • Provide regular financial, attendance, and program results reporting to leadership team and board. 
  • Act as a representative on various committees that support CRC’s operations.

Physical Demands
Work in this position will include sitting, walking, bending, standing, lifting weights in excess of 20 lbs., hearing, stooping, balancing, depth perception, kneeling, reaching, driving a vehicle, and the ability to speak and stand for significant periods of time during educational programs.

Work Environment
Office space in Carolina Raptor Center’s Visitor’s Center at 6000 Sample Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078. This position will frequently assist with programming outdoors in all weather conditions and often with large groups of people.
