DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

SUMMARY:  
Under general supervision of the CEO, develop and implement strategies to raise funds to support the mission of the Center, including Capital Campaigns, and building a sustainable Annual Fund and Planned Giving Programs to support the ongoing programs and initiatives of the Center.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and manage a strategic fundraising plan that encompasses all of the Center’s fundraising activities, including Capital Campaigns and short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and achieve fund-raising goals and objectives.
  • Work with the CEO, Staff, Board members and others to research, identify, cultivate, and solicit contributions from foundations, corporations, individual donors and other sources.
  • Ensure compliance of the Center’s Development Program with local, state and federal policies and regulations and act as an Ambassador for the Center and its mission.
  • Maintain and solicit a portfolio of major donors.  Establish sound donor stewardship programs for the Center and the donors.  Develop and oversee tracking and stewardship strategies.
  • Oversee and serve as the primary author of all grant proposals and reporting activities to funders. Lead the planning and implementation of all fund raising events and special appeals.
  • Prepare oral, written, and visual presentations for current and potential funders.
  • Work with the CEO, staff, volunteer staff and Board members to develop appropriate strategies for continually building the Donor, Membership and Planned Giving base.
  • Coordinate and manage budgets for Development Office activities.
  • Provide leadership on best practices and professional standards related to development and recommend policies to ensure the professionalism and quality of the development program.
  • Build and maintain the Development and Donor program infrastructure, and an Operating Manual describing policies and procedures, database and technology operations, prospect research and Donor recognition methods.
  • Contribute to the content and design of traditional printed fund-raising materials as well as electronic communications and the Center’s website.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
