About us:
Wildlife Rescue, Inc. of New Mexico (WRINM) is a 501(c)(3) org dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native New Mexico wildlife, and providing education on wildlife and conservation issues (wildliferescuenm.org). The WRINM Wildlife Clinic is located on the grounds of the Rio Grande Nature Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are seeking an experienced, dedicated, knowledgeable wildlife rehabilitator to lead our Clinic’s day-to-day animal care rehabilitation services. Work will be performed primarily on site at the Clinic, with occasional local travel for job-related duties.

Position Description:
We are seeking a full-time Director of Wildlife Rehabilitation to join our team, who will be responsible for all aspects of day-to-day clinic animal intake, triage, treatments and rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to wildlife conservation and rehabilitation, with experience in handling and caring for various wildlife species. A minimum of three years of supervisory experience is desirable. This position will report to the President of the Board of Directors and will supervise animal care staff and volunteers. The position will work collaboratively with the Rehabilitation Clinic Director, and will oversee, train and develop a large, diverse, and talented pool of clinic volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Reports at least monthly to the Board of Directors and on an as needed basis.
2. Trains, assists, supervises, delegates work, and works closely with Wildlife
Caretakers, Home Rehabilitators, Clinic Shift Managers (CSMs), Coordinators (Mammal, Phone, Transportation, Raptor/EducationTeams etc.) as well as a team of volunteers in all areas of wildlife rehabilitation from admissions to rehabilitation and release.
3. Performs medical procedures appropriate to skill level and training.
4. Builds strong relationships and collaborates with veterinarians, WRINM staff and
volunteers and other local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation business partners.
5. Works closely with the Rehabilitation Clinic Director (operations).
6. Oversees and audits staff and volunteers on all patient care/rehabilitation
documentation and record keeping
7. Supervises and assists staff and volunteers through each animal’s admission,
rehabilitation process and release or euthanasia (Examples include: initial and on-going assessment, creation of an individualized rehabilitation plan, medication administration, diet plan and preparation, wound care, cleanliness and sanitation of enclosures, equipment and facilities).
8. Assists in initial and on-going training of rehabilitation staff and animal care volunteers.
9. Creates, reviews and updates clinic medical and rehab procedures and protocols annually and as needed.
10.Assures legal compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, including rehabilitation permits and renewals, data reporting, and annual reports to wildlife agencies in collaboration with State and Federal Permit Holders and Liaisons.
11. Responsible for inventorying, ordering, and procuring medical supplies and medications or delegating those duties as appropriate.
12. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with the Rehab Clinic Director, Board of Directors, and Rio Grande Nature Center staff.
13. Assists with educational outreach activities and public engagement initiatives as requested.
14. Ability to develop and implement plans (which may change often) with goals and activities to keep staff and volunteers engaged and trained, during the slower season.

Required Qualifications

- Experience in wildlife care and rehabilitation, with a strong understanding of varied wildlife biology, behavior, habitat preferences, nutrition and various disease processes and injuries including orphaned animals.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation
- Completion of IWRC Basic Wildlife Rehabilitation course within 6 months of employment
- Obtain the Federal and State Rehabilitation Permits within the first year of employment and hold the permits through subsequent cycles.
- Minimum Associates Degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, zoology, veterinary science or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator (CWR) from IWRC or NWRA (current or within the first 6 months of employment)
- Vet Tech or or advanced training in wildlife care and rehabilitation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

- Experience working with a mix of paid staff and volunteer teams, including orientation and training.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills.
- Composure: Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control amid difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations and have an important level of integrity.
- Ability to set and adjust work priorities and evaluate and create solutions to work-related problems. Keep various ongoing projects organized. Requires good time management practices and the ability to meet multiple competing deadlines.
- Proficient in basic computer skills
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to fifty pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extensive periods.
- Represent WRINM professionally to the public while maintaining a neat and well-kept appearance, whether at WRINM, on the phone, at events, or during educational engagements.
- Current tetanus vaccination
- Valid driver’s license, cell phone and dependable transportation
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and a department of motor vehicle check

Salary & Benefits

- Position: Full-time, 40 hours per week with some work outside of regular business hours
- Annual Salary: $40,000 - $50,000, depending on related experience and qualifications
- Benefits: Stipend of 15% for healthcare insurance; 11 paid holidays, 20 days paid personal time
