INTRODUCTION   The Aitkin County SWCD is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team! If you have a passion for natural resources, and want to help conserve Minnesota’s water and soil resources, please apply for our District Technician position!

THE POSITION: The major responsibility of this position is to Coordinate the Aitkin County Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention and Education Program. 

The position will also coordinate implementation of forestry projects including Collaborative County Family Forest Conservation, and Legislative Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources grants.

A diverse background in project coordination, aquatic invasive species, and forest management  is desired.  People shills and organizational skills are vital for this position. 

Variety in responsibilities should be expected. Typical duties may include:

  • Coordinate the Aitkin County Aquatic Invasive Species management program.
    • Lead the Aitkin County AIS Task Force
    • Coordinate seasonal AIS Inspectors
    • Manage the AIS Education Grant program
    • Oversee the purchase and distribution of AIS education and outreach materials
    • Maintain AIS Decontamination Equipment
    • Communicate program activities with the Aitkin County Board and Aitkin County SWCD Board
  • Coordinate the implementation of SWCD forestry grants.
    • Work with project partners to ensure successful completion of grant activities
    • Track progress toward project goals and milestones
    • Provide education and outreach experiences. Examples include the field days, demonstration events, press releases, website and social media content.
    • Track expenses and inkind contributions.
    • Complete reporting to the grant sponsor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – A combination of education, experience, or demonstrated competence in project management, public education and outreach will be needed at the time of hire, or within a reasonable timeframe after the hire date.   Applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or Project Coordination is preferred. Experience in natural resource management  / environmental studies is desired.  Applicable experience in project management and/or a two-year degree from a technical program may be
  • A valid Minnesota Class D Drivers’ License
