WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Are you an educator, scientist, or outdoor enthusiast passionate about nature and teaching? We’re seeking motivated individuals to become docents for the Eastern Sierra Watershed Program. This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire youth, work outdoors, and contribute to hands-on science education.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Eastern Sierra Watershed Program is a cooperative initiative run by the Eastern Sierra Institute for Collaborative Education, Inyo County Office of Education, local resource agencies, and Inyo County Schools. This program gives students field study opportunities throughout Inyo County, engaging them in scientific inquiry and environmental stewardship.
Students participate in small-group, hands-on studies led by trained docents. As a docent, you’ll play a critical role in guiding these activities, making complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting for students.
8th Grade Lower Owens River Study Focus
- Aquatic invertebrate identification
- Wildlife observations
- Invasive plant surveys
These activities help students explore stream morphology, biodiversity, and the impacts of invasive species along the Lower Owens River.
DATES & COMMITMENT
- Training & Prep Days: October 24th & 25th, 2024
- Teaching Days: November 4th – 8th, 2024 (Full-day sessions)
- Location: Bishop, CA
COMPENSATION
- $100 per day
Docents will receive training in teaching techniques, scientific inquiry, and the specific activities they will lead. No prior experience is required—just a passion for learning and teaching!
