What your day-to-day might look like:

  • Permitting and monitoring stream and wetland mitigation/restoration
  • Geomorphic stream surveying
  • Benthic macroinvertebrate and fish surveys
  • Wetland and stream delineations
  • Vegetation assessments
  • Endangered species and habitat surveys
  • Report and memo writing

No full-time experience is required to apply for this role, but experience doing research and field data collection is preferred. This position sometimes involves working in harsh and adverse weather. You will be walking long distances, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. This position is roughly 40% travel. Fieldwork is also seasonal, so travel may not be evenly distributed across the year.

You will be performing data collection, entry, processing, and analysis, as well as technical writing based on your field efforts. This position involves extensive writing and data analysis. You will use programs such as Word, Excel, R, and ArcPro daily. You will be responsible for preparing reports, figures, technical report documentation and elements of regulatory documents for the establishment and maintenance of mitigation projects.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • BS in an environmental science field such as, but not limited to, ecology, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, forestry, hydrology, etc. (4-year degree required)
  • Experience with fieldwork/research, data analysis, and scientific writing (e.g. field work, lab work, senior thesis, any volunteer or internship experience in a research setting)

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS in an applicable environmental science field
  • Experience with benthic macroinvertebrate surveys
  • Experience with freshwater fish surveys
  • Experience with geomorphology data collection and processing.
  • Strong working knowledge of plant identification and vegetation in the southeast
  • Experience performing wetland and stream delineations
  • Experience with Trimble GPS units, and ArcPro.
  • Experience leading a field team and planning projects
  • Certifications such as CERP, PWS, or permits for threatened/endangered species collection
  • Ability to operate a UTV or tractor
  • Experience towing trailers
