We are looking to fill two temporary, full-time Field Technician positions to help us in our mission of inspiring science, learning, and community in and beyond Acadia National Park.

Ecology Field Technicians will engage in various projects focused on intertidal research, biodiversity monitoring, and involving citizen scientists in research and monitoring (and the overlap of them all). Technicians will be responsible for recording field data, collecting and processing samples, and assisting with programs at Schoodic Institute and partner projects. Technicians will work together and collaborate, as well as with other early-career and Schoodic Institute and National Park Service staff.

These positions are entry-level, and appropriate training will be provided for all the primary responsibilities. Once trained, the Technicians will lead their peers and volunteers, including Earthwatch Institute groups, in data collection across a diversity of environments such as rocky shorelines, mudflats, forests, wetlands, and mountain summits. This opportunity is designed for early-career professionals entering the workforce who wish to work in multiple ecosystems, interact with a variety of wildlife, and utilize diverse field skills for data collection and management. Through volunteer leadership roles, technicians will also have the chance to develop group management skills, learn safety practices, and gain experience in science communication.

Qualified applicants should be enthusiastic about working in challenging outdoor conditions, be eager to learn on the go, thrive in small teams, and be able to efficiently collect and record field data. Applicants should come prepared to take the initiative in organizing and preparing for field projects, as well as effectively planning their time each week.

Dates: May 27th, 2025 to October 31st, 2025

Reports to: Science Engagement Coordinator, with additional supervision from Schoodic Institute science staff

Compensation: $18.00/hour for 40 hours a week, with housing provided on the Schoodic Institute campus in the Schoodic District of Acadia National Park. In addition, the technicians will receive partial benefits including paid time off and professional development opportunities.

Residence is required and provided on the Schoodic Institute campus in Winter Harbor, ME.

Note that the nearest city with full services, Ellsworth, is a 45-minute drive away from the Schoodic Institute campus. Although not required, personal transportation is highly recommended.
