The Education & Volunteer Assistant connects people, nature, and place through interpretive programming for a variety of audiences. They design, lead, and coordinate engaging educational programs to inspire curiosity and foster stewardship of our natural world. They also work alongside our awesome volunteers, provide support for coordination of volunteer events and activities and are an integral part of creating a positive volunteer experience.
This position is a great fit for anyone interested in working in interpretation, volunteer management, outdoor education, and/or program coordination. A full-time temporary position of 40 hrs. per week with a March – November season. There is potential for a flexible schedule to accommodate school schedules.

“What you'll be doing:"
- Assists with the volunteer program including training and continuing education, creating the monthly newsletter, monthly reporting, recognition, public volunteer events, and in-field supervision of volunteers.
- Assists with administrative tasks such as managing the program calendar, program metric and feedback tracking and support for volunteer naturalists.
- Coordinates and leads outreach efforts including trailhead tables, community events, supply inventory, data tracking, scheduling and working alongside volunteers.
- Assists with education program development. Leads school field trips, special request programs and night programs.
- Utilizes creative skills to create flyers, presentations and volunteer support materials.
- Supports pre-school age programming.
- Provides general office support including communicating with staff, volunteers or partners via email and phone.
- Required to work at least one weekend day and occasionally nights.
"What we're looking for:"
Experience: One year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties including experience working with volunteers and in interpretation.
Education: Equivalent to an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with coursework in Environmental Education/Interpretation, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Conservation, or another related field preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication and customer service skills (written and verbal).
- Excellent organization skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Self-directed and motivated to be proactive in spending time effectively.
- Experience in some or all parts of the interpretive program process including conception, development, and teaching.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Familiarity with the ecology of Northern Colorado preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Apps programs. Familiarity with Canva.
