Job Title: Education Manager

Reports to: Executive Committee of the Board of Directors

Compensation: $18.00 hourly

About us: Treehouse Wildlife Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1979 dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native wildlife while promoting environmental awareness through education. 

 We are looking to fill the position of Education Manager. In general, the Education Manager duties will include but not limited to education programming (onsite and offsite), managing the Education Center Assistant and education volunteers, and overseeing the publicly accessible areas of the education center.  This exciting role is our primary face to the public and our ambassador for our animals and our mission.  We are looking to grow our center and increasing our public relations/education program is a key component to that success.

 Primary job tasks and responsibilities:

  • The Education manager is responsible and accountable for maintaining the education center displays, the classroom, animal enclosures, and the education programs in a manner that showcases Treehouse proudly
  • This role includes care of all resident animals in the education center including snakes, possums, owls, tarantulas, kestrels, turtles and more
  • The education component of this role requires the person to research, develop, plan, coordinate, and implement environmental education programming for all ages, designed to increase awareness of environmental issues, the natural history of native North American Wildlife, and conservation
  • The education outlets include on-site tours, summer camps, off-site community events and programs as well as contributions to our online presence
  • Educational programming requires transport and handling of animal ambassadors to and from programming events. This includes small ambassador animals as well as raptors
  • The education manager is responsible for the holistic health of our programs, their associated budget, invoicing system, and our  State/Federal education permits  used to maintain funding for the program
  • The education manager owns the operation of the Education Center and its associated Gift Shop
  • This position will supervise the Education Assistant as well as recruit, train, and maintain volunteers that help with cleaning, the gift shop, animal care, and programming
  • Some shared responsibilities for the animal rehabilitation component of Treehouse are also required including, answering the telephone, coordinating transport/referrals of injured or orphaned wildlife, cleaning, and patient intake
  • Other tasks and duties as needed, as requested by the Executive Committee

 Benefits:

  • 40 hours per week: generally 4-5 days a week, with flexible hours including some weekends and evenings to meet programming needs 
  • PTO, maternity leave, disability pay

  • Lunch: paid ½ hour

 Required Skills:

  • Minimum: BA in Education, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Biology, or other related field
  • Comfort in handling animals and/or the ability to learn
  • Good customer service techniques - especially with children
  • Ability to work in an organized, independent manner
  • Exceptional oral and written communication
  • Comfort and willingness to handle ambassador animals

 Preferred Skills:

  • Experience handling and training raptors and other large birds
