Job Title: Education Specialist – Insect Discovery Lab 
Location: Potrero Hill, San Francisco
Employment Type: Part-Time

The Insect Discovery Lab is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Education Specialist to provide educational outreach programs across the greater San Francisco Bay Area. This role involves facilitating interactive, hands-on lessons highlighting wildlife ecology and habitat conservation with an emphasis on the importance of insects.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver SaveNature.Org’s educational curriculum on biodiversity and conservation using live insects as animal ambassadors to educate participants about their biology, and connect this knowledge to broader conservation practices.
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts in an exciting and accessible manner, ensuring that content is easily understood by people of various age groups, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of insect ambassadors in transit to and during programming.
  • Travel throughout the Bay Area to present to a wide range of audiences, including schools, community organizations, senior centers, and the general public.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to improve program content and execution. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Biological Sciences, Drama, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with public speaking, education, or live performance is required.
  • Strong interest in wildlife, conservation, sustainability, and biodiversity preservation.
  • Knowledge of natural history, particularly invertebrates, is strongly preferred.
  • Must be comfortable with handling live insects after training.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record is required; personal vehicle is necessary for travel.

Additional Information:

  • The position is based in Potrero Hill, San Francisco.
  • Part-time position with flexible scheduling, though occasional weekend availability is required.
  • Ideal candidates will be located in San Francisco or the surrounding Bay Area.
