Position Title: Engagement Coordinator

Reports To: Executive Director

Status: Full-time, salaried (exempt)

Schedule: Flexible, some weekend events and activities required

Location: In-person at the Manzanita office with field-based work at LNCT properties in the Lower Nehalem region on the north Oregon coast

Compensation: $48,000 - $55,000 annual | Simple IRA with 3% employer match after 1 year | Accrued paid time off | $50/month Health Reimbursement

About the Lower Nehalem Community Trust

The Lower Nehalem Community Trust (LNCT)’s mission is to preserve land and nurture conservation values in partnership with an engaged community. The organization was founded over 22 years ago when a community of partners came together to conserve and restore natural lands in our community for the benefit of future generations. As a community-supported non-profit land trust, we continue this important work through our land acquisition and stewardship programs, community garden, and connecting people to learning opportunities on our lands. Our service area is the Lower Nehalem watershed and the majority of our current activities are focused in the tri-community area of Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler. 

Role of the Engagement Coordinator

We are looking for an energetic, collaborative, and professional team member to support and grow engagement in our mission through strategic outreach and communications, organizational support, and coordination of public events, workshops and learning opportunities on the land.

The engagement coordinator plays a key role in supporting LNCT’s mission and will: 

  • Amplify awareness of our mission, programs, and impact through strategic communications (newsletter, social media, local media, website, print, and organizational partners)
  • Foster relationships and engagement in LNCT programs, events and learning opportunities
  • Support annual fundraising campaigns and special events, including donor and volunteer outreach
  • Engage and welcome diverse groups on the land for learning opportunities related to our mission
  • Collaborate to further LNCT diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals and contribute to a positive organizational culture 
  • Commit to a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient future for land conservation

Essential Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Plan and coordinate annual calendar of events to engage people in experiential learning opportunities related to our mission (field trips, community events, workshops, webinars, etc.)  
  • Lead coordination of key annual and biennial events such as Earth Day, Migratory Bird Day, and the Nehalem Estuary Cleanup 
  • Convene LNCT Education Committee and engage members in defining and supporting educational goals and events
  • Represent the organization in local and regional networks (Explore Nature, Tillamook County STEAM, Tillamook Coast Visitors Association, Coalition of Oregon Land Trusts Communications Network, etc.)

Communications & Outreach

  • Implement LNCT communications and outreach plan across digital, social media and print platforms 
  • Develop and publish content for website and monthly newsletter and use analytics to track performance
  • Engage staff and volunteers in communicating stories related to our efforts and impact
  • Assist with annual fundraising plan - primarily the preparation and distribution of appeal communications and support for event logistics and planning 
  • Interact with donor, mailing, and volunteer databases (Little Green Light, MailChimp), for data import, maintenance, and tracking
  • Represent organization at relevant outreach events

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Passion for LNCT’s mission, vision, and values, and an interest in connecting people to the land and to each other
  • Experience and comfort coordinating and leading groups of students, volunteers, and the public safely in outdoor activities (hikes, field trips, workshops, etc.)
  • Contributor to inclusive, welcoming culture that values and holds space for different perspectives, personalities, learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working with students, volunteers and community members
  • Experience developing innovative communications strategies and content 
  • Detail oriented and able to accurately track engagement and maintain organized records
  • Experience with project or program management
  • Individual initiative, creativity, and ability to work independently to plan, prioritize, and organize a dynamic workload 
  • Strong writing and editing skills for social media, newsletters, and press releases
  • Basic graphic design knowledge for content creation in Canva or Adobe (or willingness to learn)
  • Academic and/or experiential knowledge of species, relationships, habitats and environments of our service region (Lower Nehalem watershed on the north Oregon coast) 
  • Experience with grant writing or fundraising is a plus
  • Valid OR driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • LNCT cultivates relationships across diverse communities to nurture conservation values
  • We communicate our work and impact in a way that resonates with, appreciates, and engages our community
