Position Summary:
CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. The Environmental Data Analyst position is an on-site position at the Pentagon providing expert advice to the Department of the Army’s Management Office Training Supports System (DAMO-TRS). The Environmental Data Analyst conducts analysis, develops forecasts, documents, and presents results to communicate DAMO-TRS elements to Army Headquarters (HQDA) and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) working groups. The Environmental Data Analyst assists with the development of documents, policy, and strategic initiatives addressing the management of Army training lands, training ranges, and training simulations, and related environmental implications. The incumbent analyzes legislative, regulatory, and policy proposals in order to develop recommendations for strategic responses related to internal and external impacts to Army training.
The Environmental Data Analyst develops and presents briefings for Army and Department of Defense leadership, responds to Congressional inquiries, and contributes to the development of potential courses of action related to policy initiatives and changes. The incumbent conducts analysis of large datasets to assess potential impacts to training and the associated environment across Army installations, multiple regions, and/or countries. The incumbent will have latitude to use various data analytics tools to convey complex environmental information to a broad audience across various leadership levels.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, data analytics and visualization, military science, environmental engineering or closely related field AND a minimum of five years’ experience providing support to either Headquarter-level programs, or five years’ experience with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs, OR
- Master’s degree in ecosystem management, ecology, natural/environmental sciences, environmental policy, data analytics and visualization, military science, environmental engineering or closely related field AND a minimum of two years’ experience providing support to Headquarters-level programs or two years with military training lands and ranges or installation environmental programs.
- Experience in communicating environmental policy and regulations to various audiences through reports, presentations, briefings, and other formats.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely to articulate complex concepts to various audiences.
- Ability to analyze and apply complex scientific findings to real world implications.
- Experience utilizing data analytics visualization tools and proficiency in Microsoft tools to include; Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Power BI. Google Analytics, Python, and Tableau are a positive.
- Current secret security clearance or ability to obtain required secret clearance.
