Evergreen Heritage Center Foundation (EHC) is accepting applications for an Environmental Education Instructor. EHC is a 501(c)(3) public charity who prides ourselves in delivering high quality education programs to students and community members living in Allegany County and surrounding areas. EHC is located on a historic farm in Mount Savage, Maryland with multiple museums, exhibits, gardens, and trails. By leveraging the unique assets of the property, EHC works toward increasing STEM and Heritage Literacy for the students we serve. 

By working with the Management Team and other staff, the instructor will provide hands-on environmental field trips at the EHC and in-class visits to Allegany and Washington County School sites for students pre-kindergarten to high school. 

Desired Skills:

  • Comfort teaching a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work with children and adolescents is critical 
  • Comfort leading and instructing programs
  • Comfort working outside, potentially in adverse weather conditions such as rain, wind, heat
  • Knowledge of basic science concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and email
  • Organized, paying high attention to detail
  • Willingness to prepare for programs and events
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and as a team
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to comprehend written instructions and complete tasks as assigned in this fashion

Minimum Requirements:

  • A college degree in education, biology/ecology, or a related field
  • Personal computer with internet access
  • Reliable transportation to and from programs/events/etc.
  • A background check is required prior to the initial start date 

This position is an independent contractor, with approximately 30 hours/week; pay commensurate with experience and level of responsibility. Additional hours may be available during our busiest field seasons and depending on the candidate’s areas of expertise. Some  evening/weekend programs are required.
