Our Environmental Education Instructor / Camp Counselor position is a temporary position that has the opportunity to work 9 hour day-shifts (7:30am-4:30pm), 15 hour night-shifts (4:30pm - 7:30am), or both, as desired by the applicant and pending Camp staffing needs.
These staff, when working during the day, are responsible for delivering Camp Colton's experiential outdoor education curriculum and programs to student Campers. Instructors collaborate with classroom teachers on program planning/delivery and incorporate educational resources and activities within lesson plans to enhance student-learning experiences.
These staff, when working overnight, are responsible for delivering and supporting Camp Colton’s evening programs. They also sleep at Camp to supervise and ensure the safety of students during nighttime hours if students need anything in the night.
All Camp staff support the overall functionality of the Camp and ensure a positive and quality outdoor educational experience for students, teachers, staff, and visitors.

- As a core member of the Camp Colton team, ensures a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience for student Campers, staff, and visitors.
- Participates in and supports all Camp activities.
- Supports the Camp's risk management plan and protocol and participates in weekly debrief meetings with the Camp Director.
- Assists the Camp Director with ensuring overall Camp safety and provides leadership and support to staff and students.
- Assisting with meal set up, seating, service, and clean up.
- Performs miscellaneous camp duties, chores, and cleaning
- Manages and ensures the functionality of Camp's resources and equipment. Informs the Camp Director of maintenance issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned and in all weather conditions.
- Day specific Tasks
- Responsible for the delivery of high-quality curriculum and instruction at Camp Colton.
- Supervises and provides childcare to students within the scope of providing educational services and general program support.
- Night Specific Tasks
- Participates in evening activities and responsible for the delivery of high-quality programs.
- Supervises and provides childcare to students within the scope of delivering evening programs, nighttime supervision, and general program support.
- Sleeping in staff tent and being on call for nighttime issues or emergencies.
- Assisting with student wake-up (7am) routine.
QUALIFICATIONS: Specific training or job experience required before appointment
- Participates in a pre-season training/orientation class.
- Current Fingerprint Clearance Card, can obtain when hired.
- Valid driver's license and ability to provide personal transportation to the Camp site.
- Enjoys working with children and in an outdoor setting.
- Motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, team-oriented, and accountable.
- May be required to qualify to drive district vehicles.
PREFERRED:
- Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred, can obtain when hired.
- Current Coconino County Department of Health Services Food Handler's Certificate preferred, can obtain when hired.
- Current AZ Teacher's Certificate or Substitute Certificate preferred.
- Prior experience teaching and working with children preferred.
