Job Title: Environmental Educator and Program Leader
Job Location: Wood Thrush Park (334 Richland Ln, Lewisburg, WV)
Dates: Planning: 10+ hrs/month during spring (Jan – May), can be remote
In-Person at Wood Thrush Park: Mon, June 2 – Fri, August 15
40+ hrs/week for 11 consecutive weeks
Pay: $22,500 for whole term.

Job Responsibilities
- Plan and implement innovative nature-based youth programming at Waldo Day Camp.
- Develop content for a varied, active outdoor day camp schedule for targeted youth age groups (ages 6 -14) within the summer work period in collaboration with Education Team.
- Lead and facilitate day camp activities with Education Director, high school interns and other relevant staff.
- Assist with program outreach and parent communication throughout work period.
- Participate in evaluation of program.
- Support high school internship program.
- Develop content for internship activities towards program goals, in collaboration with Education Team.
- Facilitate high school internship activities with relevant supervisors - including field research, work projects and day camp engagement.
- Lead activities with high school interns within the weekly schedule, in coordination with Education Director.
- Participate in evaluation of program.
- Implement/support relevant community environmental programs in collaboration with relevant Headwaters staff.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in education, environmental science, or related field
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills
- Knowledge of database software, Internet software, and word processing software
- Experience working in outdoor educational settings with youth and teens
- Experience planning/developing and executing education programming, especially environmental education
- Experience planning/developing and executing education programming, with youth and teens
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of the Greenbrier Valley region’s communities and environment
- Experience working with diverse populations
Physical Demands
Must be comfortable supervising youth during a wide variety of physical, in-person work activities outdoors in variable weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is expected to work both inside and outside in a variety of temperature and weather conditions.
