ANR Group Inc is offering two paid undergraduate or graduate student internships working with the Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) Environmental Team on the Hanford Site within southeastern Washington State. HMIS as a prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), implements ecological monitoring and compliance at the direction of the DOE Site Stewardship Manager to fulfill ecological resource-related legal and regulatory requirements.
The internship position will support multiple programs in the Environmental directorate at HMIS with a focus on supporting the Ecological Monitoring and Noxious Weed Control Programs. The interns will gain practical experience in natural resource management through extensive field surveys in shrub steppe habitat on the Hanford Site. Scope will include both field work and office tasks. Field work will focus on identification, recording, and mapping of noxious weed species. Additional field work may include vegetation monitoring, wildlife surveys, and equipment maintenance. Office tasks may include data entry, summary writing, records maintenance, digitization, and other administrative tasks within the program. During execution of the scope the selected candidate will be required to identify plant and wildlife species, support field surveys, use scientific note collection techniques, manage data, and work effectively as a team.
Basic Qualifications:
Achieved or working toward a degree in botany, environmental science, biology, or related field. Possess and maintain an active Washington State driver’s license. Must be able to walk/hike cross country for long distances (5-10 miles) a day in potentially adverse weather conditions. Requires excellent written, oral, listening, and observational skills. Must be able to perform multiple job tasks simultaneously to effectively manage assignments and support initiatives. Requires mid-level experience in a variety of computer programs such as: Word, E-mail program (Outlook), Excel, PowerPoint, and databases. Requires ability to identify issues, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and make decisions within the boundaries of established procedures.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience navigating terrain using GPS units. Experience with scientific data collection. Courses focused on plant identification or shrub-steppe ecosystems.
