Who We Are Seeking: We are seeking a self-motivated professional to conduct stream water quality monitoring with handheld field meters, install data loggers, and retrieve data from loggers. The position also requires office work of entering, organizing, and uploading data, and assisting in transitioning the water quality monitoring program to digital data collection and digital management systems. We encourage participation in cultural activities to support the mission of CVTC and the ESD department. This may include, but is not limited to, assisting in salmon curriculum at the Ya Ne Da Dah Ah School, support of culture camps and other community gatherings, and artistic and creative projects for outreach.

Qualifications, Education & Experience: 

  • 6 months to 2 years relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science discipline or 2 years of project-related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Adequate fitness for cold-weather and water body conditions.
  • Ability to assess and act on field or weather safety independently.
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and quick to learn new software programs.
  • Willing to use technology for field data recording.
  • Willing to learn R, ESRI tools (Survey 123, GIS, Story Map), AK Temp, and data management software.
  • Willingness to learn data quality control methods.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Certificates and Licenses: A valid Alaska Driver’s license and the ability to be insured on CVTC’s vehicle insurance policy is a requirement of this position. A water quality training certificate will be required but can be obtained after hire.
